Climate change and the shift towards sustainable energy have compelled businesses to review and adapt their resources and consumption patterns in order to adopt more sustainable development models as they move towards decarbonization.
At QUIMSER, we’ve embraced this challenge. Thanks to a strong environmental awareness and dedicated efforts in this regard, significant improvements have been achieved in our production processes. We’ve developed more eco-friendly products, consequently reducing pollution, and substantially lowered water and energy consumption, along with minimizing the volume of generated wastewater, among other initiatives. Now we take a further step with new actions.
In the energy field, two specific improvements stand out:
Reduction in diesel consumption: Previously used to heat raw materials in manufacturing processes within reactors, we’ve replaced products requiring heating in hot chambers or to maintain their liquid state with alternatives that remain liquid at room temperature.
Additionally, we’ve optimized the heating time and temperature for these products and associated processes. Thanks to these measures, we’ve managed to reduce diesel consumption by 40% in 2023 compared to 2022, and we expect an additional decrease of 10% in 2024. This progress has not only resulted in a significant decrease in the use of fossil fuels and the associated CO2 emissions, but also in a substantial reduction of our energy bill.
Electricity energy efficiency: By the end of 2022, we embarked on the installation of photovoltaic panels at one of our industrial warehouses. This initiative enabled us to achieve a self-sufficiency level of 43% in 2023, up from 39% in 2022. Even in facilities yet to be equipped with photovoltaic panels (a forthcoming project), we’ve managed to reduce electricity consumption by 15% through optimization measures implemented in our production processes.
